Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP)
The Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) a specialized credential for professionals working in the affordable housing industry through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program.
Successful HCCPs understand the regulatory and compliance issues and details involved with the LIHTC program, which supports safe, decent and affordable rental housing for so many American families. Property owners, developers, asset managers, state housing agencies and others turn to HCCP credential holders when they need a professional with a thorough understanding of the complex net of LIHTC guidelines, regulations and compliance requirements.
To support this one-of-a-kind credential, NAHB:
- Works with HCCP Distributors to provide education, training, and exams,
- Offers a regularly updated HCCP exam, and the HCCP credential for those who pass the exam,
- Publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Credential, for HCCP credential holders , and
- Regularly hosts continuing education events, including webinars on a variety of LIHTC and affordable housing issues and topics.
HCCP Credential Renewal Requirements
Current renewal requirements include policies approved by the Housing Credit Certified Professional Board of Governors.
Renewals
HCCP credentials must be renewed annually to remain active.
Annual Renewal Fees
- Member: $195
- Non-member: $245

Continuing Education Requirements
HCCP credential holders must complete four hours of continuing education each year. Proof is not required at renewal, but NAHB may request documentation as part of a random audit.

Renewal Requirements for Lapsed Credential Holders
- Credential holders who are more than one year past their renewal date must pay a $50 reinstatement fee in addition to the standard renewal fee
- Credential holders who remain lapsed for more than three years must pay the applicable renewal and reinstatement fees and retake the exam at the retake price to regain the credential
Renewal Reminder
Renewing on time helps HCCP credential holders avoid reinstatement fees and, in cases of an extended lapse, the need to retake the exam. To stay current, check your credential status and submit the renewal request form before your renewal deadline.
