2019 Community of the Year: Modera Sedici
This Washington, D.C.-based building was originally meant to include offices and entertainment spaces with only a few residential rooms, but Mill Creek Residential Trust envisioned creating apartments within the building. Each element of the community is meant to communicate the story of the original building — a striking Neo-Renaissance residence on 16th Street that served as the Italian embassy until 1977. The company worked intimately with the D.C. Historical Preservation Review Board (HPRB) and the local Area Neighborhood Commission during the transformation of the historic embassy into a building that would serve the needs of today’s market.
