The Schmidt residence is a single-family home designed and built by Schoelerman Contracting using 6.5-inch structural insulated panels (SIPs) manufactured by Energy Panel Structures. The owners required a high-efficient, low-carbon footprint build and wanted something that was going to outperform traditional building methods common to the area.

The home owners have built several homes in various parts of the United States prior to this build. This house is to be the last home that they would build in their lifetime and desired a high-performing, sustainable product. SIPs offered construction of a wall structure in a timely manner, with the added benefit of heating the structure during the winter more quickly than using traditional framing. This also greatly reduced the cost to heat during winter construction.

The efficient building envelope is noted in the HERS rating of 40. The project exceeds requirements for IECC 2018 Performance compliance by 40.1%, per a carbon footprint analysis.
