The owners sought Ferrier Builders specifically because they wanted to incorporate structural insulated panels (SIPs) into their project. The panels installed quickly, and the SIP walls and roof contributed to an extremely tight home envelope, giving it a HERS score of 9. This home is the first of three very similar homes. A buildable lot size of 21 feet wide and a desired modern look for all three homes created some interesting design challenges. SIPs were the ideal choice for the single-slope roof. Simplifying the roof erection on tight space gave FischerSIPS an excellent platform for a highly reflective standing seam Galvalume metal roof. The design also called for a lot of windows for ample day lighting. The placement of the windows was sensitive to insure proper shear wall strengths.
