To help home builders associations improve housing attainability in their communities, NAHB's State and Local Government Affairs Committee approved $47,000 in financial assistance for associations through the State and Local Issues Fund (SLIF) during NAHB’s 2026 Fall Leadership Meeting.

Four HBAs received SLIF to advance regulatory reform efforts and reduce barriers to housing development:

  • The HBA of Anchorage (AHBA) will work with municipal officials, industry professionals, and community partners to advance reforms related to building inspections, permitting, land-use regulations and development processes. The effort will serve as a model other HBAs can adapt in their markets.
  • The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut is leading a comprehensive research initiative examining municipal service delivery, organizational efficiency and opportunities for modernization. The study will provide housing policy recommendations for local elected officials.
  • The Oregon HBA is spearheading a statewide campaign to educate the public and policymakers about outdated housing and land use policy goals and make the case for long-overdue reforms.
  • The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Massachusetts is supporting a ballot petition to allow single-family homes built on lots as small as 5,000 square feet statewide with access to public sewer and water services.

HBAs interested in seeking support from NAHB to achieve their advocacy goals can learn more about funding opportunities and how to apply on the SLIF page.
