How NAHB is Celebrating Women in Residential Construction

NAHB will celebrate its annual Professional Women in Building (PWB) Week, Sept. 11-15, by highlighting the important role that women play within the residential construction field. Be sure to check out the special PWB Week Shop Talks, blog posts and social media shout-outs showcasing the achievements of women at every level of the home building industry.

Here’s a rundown of the PWB Week resources and tools you can utilize to help encourage more women to join the workforce:

Monday, Sept. 11: Supporting the Next Generation Residential Construction Workforce

Start the week off strong with a Shop Talk: Passing the Baton to the Next Generation of Residential Construction Leaders at 11 a.m. ET. Join 2023 NAHB PWB Council Vice Chair Luellen Smith, Second Vice Chair Carrie DeWeese and Trustee Heather Laminack for a lively discussion highlighting top strategies for positioning the next generation of leaders on the jobsite, in the C-suite and in NAHB leadership roles.

Tuesday, Sept. 12: Tradeswomen Tuesday

We are all about highlighting women in the skilled trades. On Tuesday, our daily blog post will feature three tradeswomen who are smashing industry stereotypes: Jennifer W. Howard, Founder of JWH Design & Cabinetry, Angela Dunson, Estimator at Paragon Tile and Amy Wieland-Carlson, Managing Principal at KWD Landscape Architecture.

Wednesday, Sept. 13: Women Making an Impact

Discuss strategies on how to excel in the field and become your own boss during our Shop Talk: Leaning In: Women Moving from Employees to Entrepreneurs at 11 a.m. ET. This is an opportunity to share your journey, get tips on how to move up and eventually transition into entrepreneurship. We’ll be joined by industry experts and entrepreneurial veterans Alaina Money-Garman, founder and CEO of Garman Homes, and Lynda Tompkins, principal with Timberhaven Log & Timber Homes, LLC.

Thursday, Sept. 14: Prioritizing Diversity in the Industry

Join an interactive “Ask Me Anything” discussion on NAHB Connect focused on What I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before I Entered the Construction Industry, on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET. Hear from women Associate and Builder members about the crucial advice they would have liked to receive at the start of their careers.
