Project Statement

Centered in Alexandria, Va.’s newest mixed-use multifamily development, Carlyle Crossing has transformed the region for the future. Comprising three apartment buildings that offer different aesthetics and rent levels, the complex is anchored by a Wegmans grocery and an extensive private terrace within walking distance of Metro and public transportation. With multiple restaurants and shops as well as public gathering areas, Carlyle Crossing is now a Washington Metro area destination.

The Easton represents the property’s highest-end apartment building. Conceived as a boutique living experience, the aesthetic is a mix of historic details recalling Alexandria’s historic importance juxtaposed by glamorous European grandeur. Rich color gradients of blue, magenta, purple and mauve are accented by black and white.

Guests and residents enter the lower lobby to view a 14-foot water feature that visually connects the entry with the lobby overlook. The monumental staircase leads guests and residents to the main lobby where the concierge is positioned to greet them. In this small building, the amenity space is limited. To compensate, the design team created a social lobby with a statement-making gourmet coffee and wine bar, private work pods, a library, and multiple seating groups.

Arriving at the roof level, Alexandria can be viewed from two sides of the building, which feature floor-to-ceiling windows. A two-sided bar takes pride of place in the clubroom surrounded by reading nooks and several lounge seating arrangements, and connects to a large roof deck by an electronic garage door. The roof deck boasts views reaching many miles away, a fire pit, a passive water feature and an outdoor TV.

Back inside, a sunlit gallery connects the roof deck with the fitness and yoga center creating spaces that are flooded with light. Both sophisticated and playful, curated art throughout creates a sense of place and delights the viewer.
