Project Statement
Saltwood is a 354-unit multi-family development with 19,655 square feet of ground-floor retail located on two city blocks in the Slabtown district within northwest Portland, Ore. The project features industrial-sized windows, brick facades, mahogany storefronts at the ground level, and thoughtful wood accents.
The story of Saltwood is one of transformation and wellness; this narrative is woven into the nomenclature and every architectural, art and design decision. As to the name, the word salt evokes therapeutic qualities, and wood is a nod to the lumber history of the area.
The calming sense of welcoming at Saltwood begins at the Parlor. Distinct from the typical “leasing office,” the Parlor provides a less formal, daily touchpoint, beverage service and pick-up/drop-off area, with cozy nooks and a fireplace. For those working from home, the Study provides a comfortable and sunny co-working space mixing natural textures and modern forms.
Every detail of Saltwood, from the interior planting to the art and accessories, reflects rich textures and movement to create quiet and relaxing experiences.
The curation of retail tenants at the ground-floor level reflects an investment in local businesses that are so essential for the vitality and community in Portland, including:
