Project Statement
Canvas is a 263-unit/826-bed, purpose-built student housing community located 0.5 miles to the east of the Arizona State University (ASU) campus core in Tempe, Ariz. The property offers a mix of live/work, studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units, as well as ground-floor retail space.
ASU boasts one of the most competitive student housing markets in the country. With an enrollment of more than 53,200 undergraduates, the Times Higher Education and World University Rankings ranked ASU in the top 1% of the world’s most prestigious universities in 2020. ASU was also named the No. 1 university for Innovation in 2019 by U.S. News & World Report.
Differentiation was front of mind to develop a one-of-a-kind, branded and innovation-driven interior experience that would inspire and attract students at ASU. With technology top of mind for these students, integrating the latest digital capabilities was critical. In addition to creating an amenity-rich living and study environment conducive to academic success, the spaces needed to provide ample socialization opportunities.
All units feature premium materials and appliances for a distinctive student experience. In-suite private bathrooms, quartz counters, custom upscale tile backsplash, and custom cabinetry enhance interiors that radiate with premium lighting. Ceiling fans in bedrooms and living areas add comfort along with programmable thermostats. Bedrooms feature queen-size beds with memory-foam mattresses. Vinyl plank flooring in bathrooms and living areas complements plush carpet in bedrooms and walk-in closets. Keyless entry, stainless steel appliances including a full-size washer and dryer, and 55-inch smart TVs provide additional convenience and comfort.
