Reducing Operational Expenses in North Carolina
HBA: Home Builders Association of North Carolina
Category: HBA Operations
Location: Raleigh, N.C.
Size: State Association
Year: 2025
The goals of this project by the Home Builders Association of North Carolina (NCHBA) were to increase the monetary efficiency of the association while ensuring the same quality and quantity of services would be provided. The project spanned more than one year, during which every expenditure and budgeted expense was analyzed and investigated to find more cost-effective alternatives. Storage, postage, check processing and other fees were reviewed. After cutting unnecessary expenses at the recommendation of the association’s CFO, NCHBA will save more than $20,000 in annual administrative costs.
Based on the budget analysis, NCHBA now has fewer expensive equipment leases, which lowered costs by 50%. Additionally, it has eliminated all storage costs, totaling $8,000 annually, by removing nearly 200 boxes worth of items and returning necessary storage to necessary NCHBA items. By implementing electronic check disbursement, the association is saving on printing and mailing costs, too. The project hasn't only served as a one-time cost-saving initiative. It has established repeatable methods and lasting changes to the structure of NCHBA that will save another $20,000 in 2026 and $30,000 in 2027, a total of $70,000 within just a few years of implementation.
