Since 2010, the Desert Valley’s Builders Association (DVBA) has operated its Directional Signage Program to solve a key challenge: how to legally and visibly guide prospective home buyers to new housing developments in cities that prohibit traditional offsite advertising. The program currently manages nearly 350 directional signage structures across Eastern Riverside and Imperial Counties, including in 15 incorporated cities. Each provides consistent, attractive guidance while eliminating unauthorized “bootleg” signage. The program runs under formal licensing agreements with city and county jurisdictions and is actively managed by a dedicated sign manager, contractor and oversight from DVBA leadership.

In addition to solving a regulatory issue, this program has become a major revenue stream for the Association, supporting operations beyond events and membership dues. Builders work directly with DVBA to customize signage placement as part of their marketing mix, and city governments now routinely refer new projects to DVBA as the official solution for compliant offsite advertising. With ongoing expansion into new cities and continuous updates to design and placement, the program is a model for how associations can support builders, cities and consumers alike through innovation, partnership and long-term planning.
