The Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky (BIANKY)’s Enzweiler Building Institute (EBI) created and led the Kentucky Registered Apprenticeship Program Intermediary in 2024 to address the critical labor shortage in skilled trades by providing a structured and scalable apprenticeship model. This innovative program bridges employers, apprentices and workforce agencies, offering comprehensive on-the-job training combined with classroom instruction in high-demand trades such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and welding. Through strategic partnerships and administrative support, the initiative facilitates regulatory compliance, employer incentives and industry-recognized certifications, ensuring apprentices receive quality training and career advancement opportunities.
Since its launch, the program has successfully expanded apprenticeship opportunities across the state, enabling employers to build a reliable, skilled workforce while reducing turnover through financial incentives and mentoring. Apprentices benefit from progressive wage increases and clear career pathways, making skilled trades careers more accessible and sustainable. The program has established a vital, long-term workforce development model that strengthens Kentucky’s construction industry and contributes to broader economic growth and stability.
