Kenton County Fiscal Court entered a grant services contract with the BIA of Northern Kentucky to support the HBA’s efforts in workforce development with a total funding amount of $3,589,650. The grant aims to fund the training of 240 high school students and 400 adults in skilled trades, including carpentry, facilities maintenance, and remodeling, electric, HVAC, masonry, plumbing, welding, and heritage trades (restoration) through the end of 2026. The project is a true public and private partnership.
The project provides post-secondary evening training opportunities for all Kenton County residents, particularly for participants who have left the labor force due to job discouragement and lack of training for available jobs. The program also includes those working in the leisure/hospitality and trade/transportation/utilities industries, which experienced significant impacts from the pandemic and whose pay salaries are much lower than those in the construction industry.
