GRIP is a Retrospective Rating (Retro) program sponsored by the MBA of King and Snohomish Counties that offers members the potential of earning a partial refund of their workers’ compensation premiums if they reduce workplace injuries and lower associated claim losses. GRIP is the fastest growing Retro program in the state and the third largest among its more than 40 competitors.
GRIP’s goals include:
- Improve the safety of member companies and their employees
- Reduce or eliminate factors that could lead to a citation from the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Assist managers in handling workers’ compensation claims
- Assist in light or modified duty job assignments for injured workers and wage reimbursement for employees
- Reduce workers’ compensation premiums through a well-managed safety and claims program
- Earn retrospective refunds paid to L&I by maintaining low claim costs.
GRIP achieved its goals, and in 2023, the MBA was able to provide GRIP participants with over $13 million in Retro refunds. Since 2010, there have been approximately 30,000 safety engagements with member companies.
