The Greater Houston Builders Association’s Professional Women in Building Council is the voice of women in the building industry and celebrates the contributions of women in the residential construction industry through workshops, financial classes, mentorship programs, and networking events. In its inaugural year, the PWB grew to be twice the size of the largest council in the country, with over 320 members, and the council hosted seven well-attended events.
The purpose of creating a PWB Council was to become a rich resource for members covering educational topics such as financial responsibilities and continuing education. The council also serves as a mentorship program, as it provides members invaluable opportunities to grow within the industry. The council helps build membership that represents the range of careers and specialized fields that women in the industry have carved out for themselves and offer association support as they continue this effort. The council’s inaugural event was a Galentine’s Iron Chef style quick-fire competition which served as a fun introduction for new members to get to know one another. The PWB Council also tackled its first philanthropy project, collecting feminine products and toiletries to donate to Compassion United. This is just the first of the many organization PWB wishes to touch.
