Year: 2025
Location: Hardin County, Ky.
After severe storms hit central Kentucky in April 2025, Hardin County experienced damage to more than 300 homes, with many individuals unable to return home because of damage. The National Weather Service confirmed that six tornadoes and catastrophic flooding affected the area.
In response, the Lincoln Trail Home Builders Association (LTHBA) partnered with the College Heights Church of Elizabethtown, Ky., a 501(c)(3) organization, to complete the restoration of an elderly woman’s home, who was unable to live there due to damage. They received a $48,000 HBIDRF grant to support the project and offset building material costs. The grant was used for structural repairs, interior renovation and the replacement of essential household systems that experienced water damage.
LTHBA coordinated and executed the project, with members donating time, labor and materials to minimize costs and ensure all work was performed to code. The organization scheduled volunteer work days and provided skilled tradespeople for framing, electrical work, drywall installation and flooring to complete the restoration.
