According to NAHB’s most recent member census from 2025, approximately two-thirds of NAHB’s total members are Associate members. These members include those involved in a wide range of support industries and professions including, trade contractors, manufacturers, retailers/distributors, designers, and architects.

The census not only showed that Associate members are NAHB’s largest contingent, but also that their businesses continue to thrive. The gross median revenue of Associate members was $3.4 million in 2025, which was a 12% rise from 2024 and the highest (in nominal terms) in the 18-year history of the census.

Of the roughly 71,000 Associate members:

  • 42% are primarily subcontractor/specialty trade contractors
  • 12% have a professional specialty
  • 9% are either in retail dealerships/distributorships or financial services
  • 6% are wholesale dealerships/distributorships

Payroll size for Associate members’ businesses has remained consistent for several years. In 2025, Associates had a median of 12 employees on payroll, which has not changed since 2022.

Those who had between 10-49 employees made up the largest portion (35%) of Associate members. The second largest portion (21%) of Associates were those who had 1-4 employees.

In 2025, the median age of NAHB Associate members was 56, which has also remained constant since 2022. Nineteen percent were under the age of 44, 27% were 45 to 54, and 33% were between the ages of 55 and 64. Twenty-one percent were 65 or older.
