To help home builders associations boost the attainability of housing in their communities, NAHB's State and Local Government Affairs Committee approved $75,000 in financial assistance for associations through the State and Local Issues Fund (SLIF). The committee approved the funds during NAHB’s 2026 Spring Leadership Meeting.

Supporting Public Awareness Campaigns

North State BIA (Roseville, Calif.) will poll voters regionally about their housing preferences and policies to help local lobbying efforts, drive media perceptions of housing issues ahead of the elections and identify key election issues to inform campaign efforts.

The HBA of Richmond (Va.) will also poll likely registered voters in Chesterfield County to gauge their awareness and understanding of the county’s comprehensive plan update, as well as perceptions around how it may impact growth, housing supply and affordability. HBAR intends to use the polling results to support a public outreach campaign, which includes text messaging and direct mail, to encourage residents and property owners to engage in the comprehensive plan process.

Promoting Pro-Housing Policies

The BIA of San Diego will launch a coordinated policy initiative to accelerate housing production and ensure accountability in both the City and County of San Diego on meeting their housing production targets. Through targeted process streamlining, development regulation updates and fee reforms, this effort will unlock stalled housing projects, reduce regulatory barriers, and help the region meet state-mandated housing goals.

The Metro BA of Greater Milwaukee will use SLIF to support a comprehensive study and member survey that evaluates project timelines, predictability and total housing costs. The study findings will inform the BA’s advocacy efforts with local elected officials, municipal staff and industry stakeholders.
