Focus on Jobsite Plans During National Safety Month
Join NAHB and its official safety sponsor, Builders Mutual, in recognizing June as National Safety Month, an annual observance to promote hazard awareness in residential construction and to help keep workers safe.
The goal of National Safety Month is to increase public awareness of the leading safety and health risks and decrease the number of injuries and deaths at the jobsite, on the road, and in the home.
Each week in June will focus on a different workplace safety topic, aligning with the campaign from the National Safety Council. NAHB encourages members to hold brief safety stand downs or distribute safety resources each week on the designated safety topics.
Week 1: June 1-6 – Moving Safety Forward
The month kicks off with a focus on advancing a culture of safety on the jobsite. NAHB's Safety & Health Program is a model safety plan offering small to medium-sized home builders and remodelers everything they need to build a comprehensive safety program. And NAHB's Video Toolbox Talks are the perfect way to engage workers on specific safety topics.
Builders Mutual’s WorkSafe program also provides safety training resources home builders can use for new hires and seasoned pros.
Week 2: June 7-13 – Staying Safe on the Roads
Getting to and from a job site can often be just as dangerous as working on one. Remind your workers that safe driving is a choice everyone should make by promising to 1) Never operate a vehicle while impaired, and 2) Never text and drive. Learn more in NAHB's Safe Driving video toolbox talk.

Week 3: June 14-20 – Promoting Holistic Worker Health
NAHB and its partners, including Builders Mutual, have been focused on mental health and wellness for years. There is a stigma in construction about reaching out for help that we are determined to end. Resources can be found on NAHB's Mental Health and Wellbeing page.
Builders Mutual also has a great podcast episode to check out, Mental Health in the Workplace.
Week 4: June 21-30 – Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls
Fatalities resulting from falls on jobsites continue to be the leading cause of death for construction employees. NAHB has numerous resources for home builders to learn best practices in fall prevention, including video toolbox talks on fall prevention, ladder safety, scaffolding safety, roofing safety, and much more.
Builders Mutual has a long-running campaign, Put Your Guard Up, focused on the importance of guardrails on home building sites.
