On the latest episode of NAHB’s podcast, Housing Developments, CEO Jim Tobin and COO Paul Lopez sit down with 2026 NAHB Chairman Bill Owens to discuss his plans for the year ahead, including the Blueprint to 100 initiative, and what’s happening in Washington.

As Owens noted in his acceptance speech at the 2026 International Builders’ Show, there are three key areas NAHB plans to focus on this year:

  • NAHB’s membership model
  • Bylaws
  • Strategic plan

“The reason we picked those is they’re all intertwined,” Owens shared. “There was no way to really look at how we did a better job of casting a bigger net with membership if we didn’t look at how the bylaws were tied in, with the bylaws really controlling that member model, so to speak, in relation with the state and locals.”

The overarching goal is to make the Federation more nimble while honoring the member-driven focus of NAHB, increasing engagement at the state and local levels, and being more representative of the home-building industry.

“You’ve got to have the representation in order to have the credibility, and the credibility equals influence,” Owens explained. “So what we’re trying to do is just get more people involved at all levels.”

Input from members and the industry will be a critical part of this initiative to help engage housing professionals across the board in NAHB and shape future strategic plans.

“The mission is total engagement,” Owens stated. “I want to hear from people.”

Lopez, Tobin and Owens also delve into the midterm elections, updates on the housing packages from the House and the Senate, and President Trump’s recent executive orders.
