Membership Recruitment and Retention
Published

To honor the hardworking members who’ve spent time recruiting this year, NAHB is celebrating the annual Spike Appreciation Month during November. "Spike" is the colloquial term for NAHB members who help with recruitment and retention.

Member-to-member recruitment is essential for growing membership, and each year it’s proven to be the most effective method in building the Federation.

Thank you, Spikes

NAHB’s Fall Recruitment Competition Closes on Nov. 30

Additionally, the Fall Recruitment Competition, powered by LG Pro Builder, will end on Nov. 30. The goal is to recruit as many new members as possible.

"Send letters to your trades, vendors, and anyone else who you do business with sharing the values of the local, state and national federation," advised 2024 winner Christy Beck, VP corporate director of sales and marketing at Caruso Homes.

Beck says she strongly believes in investing time in recruitment because "the industry overall needs strong voices to push our initiatives."

This year, NAHB is also rewarding Spikes who have recruited at least one new Builder and/or Associate member in the last year with two general admission tickets to the 2026 IBS Closing Concert in Orlando.

Spikes who have recruited at least five new Builder and/or Associate members in the last year can access the Spike VIP section and enjoy complimentary food and drinks at the concert.

Members can view more membership recruitment tips, such as how to overcome common objections and template letters, on nahb.org.
