Industry professionals across the country encounter a wide variety of opportunities and challenges, many of which are specific to their region. To help prepare the leaders of state and local associations who support those industry pros, NAHB continues to collaborate with HBAs in hosting Area Leadership Conferences.

These conferences bring member leaders, EOs and HBA staff together for in-person leadership development and networking opportunities. Thus far in 2025, two area conferences have been held and two more will be held in the fall, each one offering customized sessions to support area-specific needs. Additionally, dates for spring 2026 area conferences were recently announced (see below).

Many of the topics examine key issues for leaders such as effective recruiting and workforce development, as well as meeting management, board transitions and more.

“The leadership training I received in New Orleans was invaluable,” said Michael Munnerlyn, of Maxtec Drywall, who attended a recent Area 8 conference. “It helped me connect with my peers more meaningfully and better understand the different personalities I encounter daily. This training will enhance my relationships with other HBA members and benefit me in my business interactions.”

A fellow attendee at the Area 8 conference, Bubba Jenkins, of Jenkins Homes, echoed Munnerlyn’s sentiments.

“It provided a convenient way to get NAHB-quality training within driving distance of my home, making it convenient and inexpensive for me to attend,” Jenkins said. “This valuable training will not only help me as a leader of my local and state associations, but also as a leader within my company.”

Area Leadership Training Conferences are just one way that NAHB supports leadership training and development for members. As NAHB looks to continue and expand the training conferences in 2026, it has created an Area Leadership Training Conference Hosting Toolkit that provides additional details on what’s involved for states or areas to host similar events.
