NAHB members who were unable to join us in Washington, D.C., this June for the 2024 Spring Leadership Meetings can watch some of the highlights on nahb.org, including: 

  • NAHB Chairman Carl Harris sits down with Lauren Lowery from the National League of Cities and Angela Brooks from the American Planning Association to discuss the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook.
  • First Vice Chair Buddy Hughes moderates a panel of NAHB regulatory staff to share the important issues they’ve been tackling on behalf of the Federation.
  • Jonathan Falk, NAHB director of disaster operations, moderates a panel of NAHB members who share their stories in working with NAHB in the wake of natural disasters to promote the resources available.
  • NAHB CEO Jim Tobin joins NAHB’s affiliates — represented by Ed Brady, CEO of the Home Builders Institute; Mark Pursell, CEO of the National Housing Endowment; and Mike Luzier, CEO of Home Innovation Research Labs — to let them share what they do to support NAHB.
  • NAHB Chief Economist Dr. Robert Dietz provides an industry economic outlook. 
  • Justin Wood, chair of the State and Local Government Affairs Committee, and Edward Martin, chair of the Legal Action Committee, provide reports on the State and Local Issues Fund (SLIF) and Legal Action Fund and how they’re supporting the industry.
  • NAHB CEO Jim Tobin and members of NAHB staff provide updates on key areas of NAHB's strategic plan, including state and local advocacy, members, workforce development and communications.
  • Third Vice Chairman candidate Gary Campbell addresses the Leadership Council.

Household Real Estate Asset Value Falls to Start the Year

The market value of household real estate assets fell from $48.1 trillion to $47.9 trillion in the first quarter of 2025, according to the most recent release of U.S. Federal Reserve Z.1 Financial Accounts. The value of household real estate assets declined for three consecutive quarters after peaking at $48.8 trillion in the second quarter of 2024 but remains 2.1% higher over the year.

Producer Prices Rise in May: New Construction Input Analysis

Prices for inputs to new residential construction—excluding capital investment, labor, and imports—rose 0.2% in May, following a (revised) decrease of 0.2% in April. These figures are taken from the most recent Producer Price Index (PPI) report published by U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Inflation Up Slightly in May

Despite inflationary pressure from tariffs, inflation in May rose slightly but came in softer than expected. The Consumer Price Index increased from 2.3% in April to 2.4% in May year-over-year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ report.
