Dean Mon, a New Jersey-based builder and developer and the president of D.R. Mon Group, Inc., was the 2020 NAHB Chairman of the Board until his resignation in June 2020. Mon has been active in the NAHB leadership structure at the local, state and national levels throughout his career. Mon chaired NAHB’s Federal Government Affairs, Construction Safety and Health, and Single-Family Production Builders committees. He also served three terms as the NAHB National Area 2 Chairman and was a member of the NAHB Transitional Board.
Actively involved in the New Jersey building industry, Mon served as director, executive board member and president of the New Jersey Builders Association (NJBA). As the 1996 NJBA president, Mon led the charge to amend the state’s Construction Code Act to require all codes to be necessary, practical and cost-effective, resulting in an annual savings of approximately $4,000 per home.
Mon was inducted into the NJBA Hall of Fame in 1996, was named the NJBA Builder of the Year in 1998 and received the NJBA Affordable Housing Award in 2000. Mon held every leadership position from committee chair to president at his local association, the Metropolitan Builders & Contractors Association of New Jersey. Mon was the first Hispanic to be elected NAHB chairman.
