Peter D. Herder served as president of NAHB in 1984. A builder/developer from Tucson, Ariz., Herder is president of The Herder Companies. He has been an NAHB national vice president and a national representative for the state of Arizona. Herder was president of the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association in 1969, 1975 and 1976. He was named Builder of the Year by the Southern Arizona HBA in 1975 and Inspirational Leader of the Decade in 1977. In 1981, Herder was named by President Reagan as the only builder to serve on the President’s Commission on Housing. Herder was 1979-1980 president of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
