John Koelemij served as president of NAHB in 1985. A home builder from Tallahassee, Fla., Koelemij is president of Orange State Construction, Inc., which builds single family homes and apartments, develops land and manages rental property. He was president of the Tallahassee Builders Association in 1958 and 1964 and president of the Florida Home Builders Association in 1966. In 1974, Koelemij was the first to be honored as “Builder of the Year” by the Florida Home Builders Association.
Koelemij was appointed by two governors of Florida to serve as chairman of the governor’s Council on State Housing Goals. He has been a member of the NAHB Board of Directors since 1958, serving as a life director since 1969. Koelemij has also been a member of the NAHB executive committee, and an NAHB national vice president.
He has chaired the planning commissions of both his city and county as well as other special task forces for local government.
