William Blackfield, the 1964 NAHB president, was named a life director and led many key policy-making committees for the association. He was a member of the building industry associations of Hawaii and Northern California, as well as the Home Builders Council of California. As NAHB president, Blackfield launched the Registered Builders Program, the first industry effort to control quality in new home construction.
