W. Evans (“Buck”) Buchanan served as NAHB President in 1963. A second-generation home builder, his father, J. Wesley Buchanan, was one of the founders of NAHB. Buchanan was the builder of NAHB’s 1962-63 Research House, a home constructed in Rockville, Md., to test new building materials and techniques. He built homes primarily in the Washington, D.C., suburbs and Cape Canaveral, Fla.
