R.G. “Dick” Hughes served as president of NAHB in 1954. Hughes was a Texas home builder who pioneered the movement toward year-round air conditioning in moderately priced homes. He also oversaw the groundbreaking for the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C., home to NAHB. Hughes also served on the President’s Advisory Committee on Housing Policies and Programs.
