Durbin served as president of NAHB in 1941. He founded and was president of Durbin Builders, Inc., of Detroit, Mich., from 1929 to 1950. Durbin was the first president of the Michigan HBA and served for 10 years, from 1950 to 1960, as active directive secretary of the Detroit Housing Commission. Durbin was also president of the Metropolitan Detroit HBA. He retired from active building in 1949. Durbin was elected to the National Housing Hall of Fame in 1977.
