NAHB Names Alison Benson as its New Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has promoted Alison Benson, CPA, to chief financial officer and treasurer. Benson brings more than two decades of accounting, financial planning and nonprofit financial management experience to the role. She joined NAHB in February 2026 as vice president, controller, and also served as interim treasurer.
“I am pleased to welcome Alison Benson as CFO and a member of our management team,” said NAHB CEO Jim Tobin. “Alison’s exceptional financial expertise, professional experience and leadership skills will help maintain our association’s financial stability, ensuring we have the resources necessary to address the challenges our industry faces and deliver quality services to our membership,” he said.
At NAHB, Benson has led financial, budgeting, accounting, treasury, investment, tax, financial reporting and internal control functions, supporting executive and board decision-making and aligning financial resources with organizational priorities. She has also provided financial guidance to NAHB’s affiliates, including the Home Innovation Research Labs, the National Housing Endowment, the National Housing Center Corporation, BUILD-PAC and the Home Builders Institute.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to take this next step with NAHB,” said Benson. “What makes this role especially meaningful is the chance to work alongside our leadership, staff and members in support of an industry that helps people build homes and communities. I look forward to building on those relationships and helping ensure NAHB has a strong financial foundation for the work ahead.”
Before joining NAHB, Benson served as a senior manager at Aprio, formerly O’Connor Consulting Services, providing financial management and advisory services to nonprofit organizations across the United States. Her experience included serving as interim CFO and controller, managing financial operations, leading month-end and year-end closes, overseeing financial statement audits, and assessing financial processes to identify risks and improve efficiency and compliance.
Previously, Benson held leadership roles at the National Geographic Society, including director of budgeting and financial analysis in the Office of the CFO and director of financial planning and analysis for Education and Children’s Media.
Benson is a certified public accountant licensed in Virginia and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the College of St. Benedict in Minnesota, with minors in mathematics and philosophy.
