Carl Harris, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a custom home builder from Wichita, Kan., issued the following statement after the passing of Donald R. Horton, founder of D.R. Horton, Inc.:

“The nation’s home builders mourn the passing of Donald R. Horton. Don was an icon in the home building industry, and the company he founded more than four decades ago, D.R. Horton, Inc., has been one of the leading home building firms in the nation for nearly a half a century. Starting from a local firm in Fort Worth Texas, Don built his company into a national powerhouse that over the course of his career helped more than 1 million families achieve the dream of homeownership. Don was a true titan of housing who left an indelible mark on the home building industry, and he will be sorely missed.”
