More about Matthew Dobson
Matt Dobson has been involved with the housing industry for over 25 years. After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction Management, Dobson joined the staff of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). During his first tenure with NAHB, he worked as an advocate on various issues for the modular, panelized, and log home industries.
Dobson continued his career in southern New England, where he worked for a small log home manufacturer both in operations and as a builder of custom homes. His project management career took him through the inner-city multi-family renovation business in Waterbury, CT, as well as managing the construction of upper-end homes surrounding the Tournament Players Club of Cromwell, CT.
Dobson rejoined the NAHB as an industry representative in various codes and standards. During this time, he was a member of various National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committees including the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), Uniform Fire Code (NFPA 1) and the National Electrical Code (NFPA 72).
In his current role as Vice President for the Vinyl Siding Institute, Dobson has general oversight of the advocacy efforts of the organization. Dobson specifically works to ensure that vinyl siding, insulated siding, and polypropylene siding are fairly recognized through the codes and design community.
His focus includes representing the industry on national building code, research, design, sustainability, and energy issues. He serves as a member of the ICC’s Code Development Committee for the International Building Code and as a Consensus Committee Member and Task Group Chair for the development of the National Green Building Standard. Dobson also serves on various subcommittees with the National Association of Home Builders and recently was appointed to Chair the Task Group on Emissions for the Vinyl Sustainability Council.
