Details and Solutions for Livable Homes and Aging in Place (CAPS III)
Awareness of the aging in place (AIP) concept in the home building industry has increased significantly so that the National Association of Home Builders Certified Aging-in-Place (CAPS) designation is becoming the preferred, if not the expected, designation for professionals working with the AIP population. The CAPS programs was created to introduce building industry professionals to the market’s growth potential and to teach techniques for expanding a business through effective marketing, communication, and solution design and implementation for this market.
This course presents detailed discussions about the application and integration of design solutions in a home. It is the final step toward developing comprehensive knowledge and honed skill for staying ahead of the curve in this ever-expanding market. View the table of contents for this course.
This course will benefit builders, remodelers, and allied professionals who serve the aging in place market, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, real estate professionals, and trade contractors, as well as academics.
This course’s education level is considered Intermediate.
By completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Create comprehensive designs for aging in place projects
- Practice design and installation for key components of AIP home design
- Implement techniques of budget integration into design and product selection
- Identify common missteps for design and installation of AIP solutions
- Review and apply solutions for common single-room modifications of a specified space
- Prioritize solutions in a whole house multi-generational case study while being compliant with budgetary constraints with consideration given to phased construction application
This course provides 6 hours of continuing education credits for these NAHB credentials: CGA, CGB, CGR, GMB, GMR, CSP, Master CSP, CMP, and MIRM.
This course is a requirement for the CAPS credential.
This course counts as 6 credit hours towards the required continuing education component of the NAHB Certified Master Building and Remodeling Professional Credentials (CMBP and CMRP).
6 AIA/CES LU: NAHB is a Registered Provider with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Systems. Credit earned on completion of this course will be reported to CES Records for AIA members by NAHB. Certificates of Completion for non-AIA members are available upon request.
