NAHB Leadership Academy Prepares Next Generation of Member Leaders
Developing strong leaders takes preparation, practical knowledge and a commitment to continuous growth. That’s the goal of NAHB’s Leadership Academy, launched in 2024 to equip emerging member leaders with the knowledge, skills and connections to make a greater impact on their local associations and the home building industry.
In just three years, the academy has grown into one of NAHB’s most impactful leadership development programs. Participants have consistently highlighted the value of their experience, particularly the lessons, connections and practical knowledge they can bring back to their local associations.
“This was my first Leadership Academy and it was amazing,” said J.P. Ferrarini of the Building Industry Association of Philadelphia. “It provided great insights on how I can better utilize my membership, become an ambassador to my local, and collaborate with leaders across the country to support and create impact within the building industry.”
New Cohort for 2027
The academy is now preparing to welcome its fourth cohort in 2027. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 16, 2026. The program will begin in February at the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, followed by four additional in-person gatherings throughout the year.
Through a combination of hands-on workshops and in-person retreats, participants gain a deeper understanding of NAHB while strengthening their leadership abilities and building relationships that can help shape the association’s future.
That ongoing engagement with NAHB and fellow association leaders is one of the most valuable aspects of the program, according to many participants.
“The Leadership Academy has continually exceeded my expectations,” said Katie McLaughlin of the Greater Birmingham Association of Homebuilders. “Each session provides valuable leadership insights, meaningful discussions, and practical tools that I can apply within my local association and professional career.”

Ideal candidates are NAHB members with prior national leadership experience who are active in national committees, councils, events or similar roles.
