According to the most recent survey data, NAHB estimated regulation accounts for over 40% of the cost of a new multifamily development — a key data point in lobbying federal, state and local policymakers against policies that drive up the cost of new housing.

However, this widely cited estimate is from 2022, so NAHB is conducting a survey to update it and needs your help to do so.

Multifamily development is subject to a variety of regulations at all levels of government. While some are necessary, it is informative to know the financial impact of regulation, particularly in an era of widespread cost increases and worsening affordability problems.

There is no way to produce a new estimate without input from multifamily developers, so your response is vital. All individual responses will be strictly confidential, and only overall averages will be published in our report.

To locate this brief survey, please check your inbox (or spam folder) for an email from NAHB Survey at [email protected]. Recipients are asked to complete the survey by Friday, Nov. 13.

NAHB and the National Multifamily Housing Council thank you for using your valuable time on this endeavor.
