From Mr. Wonderful to Counting Crows, IBS 2027 Brings Out the Stars
The NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS) always features leading experts and luminaries from the housing and real estate industry. The sheer size of the event also attracts talent from other walks of life.
When IBS returns to Las Vegas Feb. 2-4, 2027, the Design and Construction Week Opening Ceremony will feature keynote speaker Kevin O’Leary, “Mr. Wonderful” from the hit show Shark Tank.
The entrepreneurial wizard will share the business lessons behind his success and offer a candid look at what it takes to identify opportunities, make smarter decisions, protect profitability and build a business that can thrive in a competitive market.
O’Leary built his first major business, SoftKey Software Products, from his Toronto basement with “a big idea and zero cash.” The company grew into an industry giant before being acquired for $4.2 billion. Since then, he has founded and invested in companies across industries ranging from technology and financial services to real estate, storage and cryptocurrency.
The opening ceremony begins promptly at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the Paradise Event Center at the Westgate resort adjacent to the convention center. Doors open at 7 a.m. and seating is first come, so arrive early.
At the end of the week, the IBS Closing Concert will feature 90s radio stalwarts Counting Crows.
Led by frontman Adam Duritz, Counting Crows exploded onto the music scene in 1993 with their multi-platinum debut album, August and Everything After, led by “Mr. Jones” and “Round Here.” Continuing to evolve their distinctive blend of rock, folk and deeply personal storytelling, in 2004 the band recorded “Accidentally in Love” for Shrek 2, earning an Academy Award nomination, Golden Globe nomination and Grammy Award nomination.
The band has produced eight studio albums, selling more than 20 million records worldwide and establishing themselves as one of the world’s premier live touring rock bands.
The show starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 in the Westgate Paradise Event Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and tickets will be required. NAHB’s Spikes, the top member recruiters in the Federation, receive two complimentary tickets to the closing concert if they recruit one new member over the previous year.
In between the opening and closing events, you may see other stars on the show floor. Drew and Jonathan Scott, TV’s “Property Brothers,” are mainstays on the IBS exhibit floor as is fellow HGTV star Mike Holmes. O’Leary’s co-star on Shark Tank, Daymond John, is also an IBS regular.
