New NHE-Funded Tool Maps Training Opportunities Nationwide

As the residential construction labor shortage continues nationwide, a new tool, ConstructionSkillsMap.org, makes it easier to find training opportunities in the skilled trades in communities across the country.

Built at the University of Denver's Burns School and funded by a Homebuilding Education Leadership Program (HELP) Grant from the National Housing Endowment (NHE), NAHB's philanthropic arm, ConstructionSkillsMap features more than 3,000 verified training programs on one public map. It includes the skilled trades, construction technology and management, as well as opportunities from the Home Builders Institute and NAHB Student Chapters.

“The National Housing Endowment's HELP Grant was designed to seed exactly this kind of national resource," said Mark Pursell, NHE chief executive officer. "ConstructionSkillsMap represents NHE funds at work to further our mission — putting the next generation of skilled tradespeople within reach of the training programs that will launch their careers.”

With 305,000 construction openings across the country in June 2026, the skilled labor shortage hinders housing production. Schools and apprenticeships offer training for people who could fill these openings, but finding and comparing opportunities can be difficult. ConstructionSkillsMap helps by bringing local and national programs together on one searchable database.

The platform is designed for students, career-changers and adult learners. Users can search their area, compare verified programs and click directly to a program's website to learn more or enroll. It is free and does not require an account.
