Statement of NAHB 2027 Third Vice Chairman Candidate Don Dabbert

The NAHB Nominations Committee has certified one candidate for 2027 Third Vice Chairman:  Don Dabbert, from Fargo, N.D., who is a member of the Building Industry Association of the Red River Valley. He will address the NAHB Leadership Council in June at the Spring Leadership Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Don Dabbert Jr. was born in Aberdeen, S.D., and moved to Fargo, N.D. in 1985. Drawn to architecture and design from a young age, he began his home-building career in 1992 with Contemporary Builders. In 2010, he founded Dabbert Custom Homes to build homes that genuinely reflect the people who live in them. The company constructs more than 60 single-family homes annually throughout Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo, Horace and nearby communities, and has earned recognition for quality craftsmanship, thoughtful design and personalized service.

In addition to home building, Don owns DCH Property Management, overseeing more than 200 residential and commercial properties. His development portfolio includes Hampton Place, Rivers Edge and Cub Creek neighborhoods, as well as commercial projects. In 2025, Dabbert Custom Homes was honored as a Builder of Excellence for the Red River Valley.

Don has been active with NAHB for more than two decades. He serves as North Dakota State Representative and has held roles including NAHB Area 10 National Area Chairman (NAC), BUILD-PAC Trustee, NAC Moderator, and NAHB Senior Life Delegate. Locally, he is a former president of the North Dakota Association of Builders (NDAB) and a two-time NDAB Builder of the Year.

Committed to community service, Don has supported organizations including Make-A-Wish, Ronald McDonald House, the Hulbert Aquatics Center and the Marv Bossart Parkinson Foundation. He recently donated land for the NDSCS Career Innovation Center. Outside work, he enjoys lake time with his wife, Kathy, and daughters Isabell and Liz, along with fitness and bird hunting.
