In the midst of the current housing affordability crisis, remodeling is capturing a growing share of the residential construction market. As remodeling continues to boom, NAHB is tracking which projects builders are tackling most frequently.

For the fourth quarter NAHB/Westlake Royal Remodeling Market Index (RMI) survey, NAHB asked remodelers how common 22 remodeling projects were for their company in 2025 on a scale of 1 to 5 (in which 1 means not common at all and 5 means very common). On par with years prior, bathroom, kitchen and whole-house remodeling were the three most common types of projects undertaken by NAHB remodelers.

Bathroom remodeling was the most common project in 2025, with 73% of remodelers rating it common to very common (4 or 5) for an average of 4.1. Two other remodeling jobs received average ratings above 3: kitchen remodeling (3.9) and whole-house remodeling (3.5). More than 50% of remodelers rated both projects as common to very common. Ranked fourth and fifth were room addition and window/door replacements, with 42% and 35% of remodelers, respectively, rating each as common to very common.
