On the latest episode of NAHB’s podcast, Housing Developments, CEO Jim Tobin and COO Paul Lopez celebrate Young Professionals (YP) Week as they welcome guest David Price, the owner of David Price Construction LLC and a YP member.

The trio discussed Price’s introduction to home building, his passion for workforce development, how members can participate in YP Week (Oct. 21-25), and more.

“Any [job] that would’ve had me confined to a room all day was probably not the best idea in my life,” said Price, whose father was a doctor and mother was a lawyer. “I think there’s an avenue for people who need to be out and do things, and we are that avenue in this industry.”

This year during YP Week, members are encouraged to participate in a community service project for National Day of Service on Oct. 25.

“The idea is for people to get out and about, and if you have Habitat for Humanity in your area, go serve and do things for them,” said Price. “The other idea is to become a mentor and take some middle school, high school or college kids who are thinking of getting into the industry and take them onto job-sites. Service work can be done in so many different way.”

In the interview, Price also highlighted tips for HBAs looking to get their YP groups off the ground. He underscored the advantages of meeting in lively areas away from typical office buildings so YP members can get business done while still having a good time.
