NAHB Announces Partnership with MANUAL to Advance Men’s Health and Wellness
June is Men’s Health Month, and NAHB is excited to announce a pilot partnership with MANUAL, a men’s health and wellness company that provides self-paced programming tailored for young men.
Men’s health — and especially men’s mental health — is a serious public health challenge. Harvard University reports that the gender gap in American life expectancy is about five years: 76 for men compared to 81 for women. Plus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide rates for men are approximately four times higher than rates for women, and construction has the second highest suicide rate among all industry groups.
NAHB is proud to partner with MANUAL, one organization tackling the mental health crisis by creating evidence-based content built for men.
“Unfortunately, men are often times resistant to seeking help for their struggles. Rather than forcing them into systems that don't work for them, we need to re-imagine how we support men dealing with mental health and addiction issues,” said Matthew Stefanko, CEO of MANUAL. “NAHB and its Young Professionals Committee understands that, which is why this collaboration between MANUAL and NAHB will be so fruitful for their members. They are deeply committed to their members' well-being, and we are ecstatic to support them on this journey."
The content MANUAL provides ranges from livestreams on financial planning to 24/7, anonymous, 1-on-1 chats with bilingual health experts. The programming will be available through MANUAL’s digital platform and social media channels.
Members of NAHB’s Young Professionals Committee, as well as members of state and local HBA and BIA Young Professionals Committees, can sign up for MANUAL at no cost. More information on upcoming content, including webinars focused on individuals from the residential construction industry, will be released in the coming months.
If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide or experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, please call 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and be connected to free, 24/7 confidential support.
