Each year, the housing industry celebrates homeownership month in June to remind consumers about the importance of home in our lives.

According to NAHB’s latest Housing Trends Report, the retreat in mortgage interest rates during the first quarter of 2023 led to a record share of adults in the United States – 18 percent – to declare having plans to buy a home within a year. The relatively lower interest rates pushed more first-time home buyers to enter the market. A majority (71%) of prospective buyers reported this would be their first time buying a home, up from 61% in the final quarter of 2022.

NAHB has an online toolkit of resources that can be tailored for any local market to help members share messages about the value of homeownership throughout June. Toolkit resources include sample social media posts and videos, talking points and customizable articles of interest for current and prospective home owners.

To underscore the residential construction industry’s commitment to enriching communities, NAHB members will meet with lawmakers on June 7 in Washington, D.C., to discuss practical solutions for overcoming housing affordability challenges.
