NAHB held its first Global Home Building Symposium at the 2023 International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas in February. The symposium featured expert speakers offering insight on the U.S. and global housing markets, economic forecasts, and the latest home buyer trends in a rapidly shifting environment.

Attendees also had the opportunity to network with fellow global members and talk to U.S. Department of Commerce representatives about doing business in the United States.

Live translators were on hand to maximize effective communication.

Attendees heard from experts in NAHB's Economics department, building scientists from Home Innovation Research Labs, and industry heavyweights from around the globe.

International attendees at IBS 2023 also had access to the International Central lounge, a centrally located area providing meeting space, complimentary refreshments, language services and educational opportunities.

The Global Home Building Symposium was a great hit among attendees. Make sure to check on plans for the next one at IBS 2024 in Las Vegas, Feb. 27-29, 2024.

While new homes remain largely unaffordable, builder efforts to improve housing affordability paid dividends in the second quarter of 2025, according to the latest data from the NAHB/Wells Fargo Cost of Housing Index (CHI). The CHI results from the second quarter of 2025 show that a family earning the nation’s median income of $104,200 needed 36% of its income to cover the mortgage payment on a median-priced new home. Low-income families, defined as those earning only 50% of median income, would have to spend 71% of their earnings to pay for the same new home.
