NAHB Unveils the Two Official Show Homes of the 2022 International Builders’ Show

The NAHB Leading Suppliers Council, in collaboration with Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler magazines, today unveiled the official show homes of the NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS): The New American Home® 2022 and The New American Remodel® 2022. IBS attendees may tour the homes Feb. 8-10.

“ For nearly 40 years, the New American Home program has continually raised the bar for home building ingenuity with each new edition, and the 2022 homes are no exception,” said NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke, a custom home builder from Tampa, Fla. “ These homes are not simply annual exhibits of building products. Rather, they inspire growth and encourage innovation throughout the residential construction industry.”

The New American Home 2022 features modern-coastal designs and a versatile floorplan to optimize space. Built by Envy Homes and designed by BSB Design, the 4,646-square-foot-home is intentionally smaller than the typical show home to demonstrate some of the latest space-saving techniques in home building. The unique layout integrates multiple flex spaces inside and outside, including a game room, home gym, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the home’s central courtyard and pool.

“We wanted to build a home with numerous ‘wow’ features, but within a scope that is relatively more realistic compared to other show homes, as far as size, price and location, to appeal to an even broader audience,” said Serena Hahn, CEO of Envy Homes. “It’s definitely not your typical show home, and we know there is incredible demand right now in this segment of the market, so there’s a lot of excitement to see what can be done within a property like this.”

The New American Remodel 2022 is a modern bungalow-style home originally built in 1963. Comprehensive renovations by Designer Trade Services nearly doubled the home’s square footage of total living space to 6,993. The remodeled home now features five bedrooms, four and one-half bathrooms, an exercise room and detached guest house. Despite the size increase, the renovated home boasts net-zero energy status.

“My vision for the 2022 remodel was to really capture the essence of this mid-century modern home, without taking away from its original beauty and charm,” said Phil Kean, president of Phil Kean Design Group and lead architect of the project. “The original home had so many fantastic features we could work with and incorporate into the new design—creating that seamless transition. We’re extremely proud of how it turned out and excited for everyone to see the finished product.”

In addition to achieving the National Green Building Standard’s Emerald status — its highest efficiency rating — both homes will receive certifications from multiple Department of Energy programs, including: Energy Star, Zero Energy Ready Home, Builders Challenge and Building America. Achieving such high-performance ratings was made possible by incorporating state-of-the-art green/sustainable building products. The homes feature spray-foam insulation, high-quality solar panels, automated LED lighting and a full array of energy-efficient appliances.
