NAHB Mourns Passing of Pennsylvania Builder and Leader David Knipe

NAHB mourns the passing of Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA) past president and long-time NAHB executive committee member David Earle Knipe. Knipe, 76, passed away on Nov. 1.

From Abington, Pa., Knipe was the founder and owner of Rock Hill Builders Inc., in Doylestown, for 50 years. He was involved with the Home Builders Association of Bucks and Montgomery Counties early in his career and held numerous positions at the state and national level, including as 1995 PBA president. Knipe was named Builder of the Year in 1990 and received the Distinguished Achievement Award in 2003. He was instrumental in writing the legislation that received passage of Pennsylvania’s first impact fee law.

Knipe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Ann, his son David and daughters Jennifer and Cynthia, and their families, including six grandchildren. A celebration of Knipe’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 20 at Deep Run Presbyterian Church in Bedminster, Pa. Donations may be made in Knipe’s name to Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County.

Mortgage Rates End 2025 at the Lowest Level of the Year

Long-term mortgage rates have been declining since mid- 2025 and ended the year at their lowest level since September 2024. According to Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.19% in December, 5 basis points (bps) lower than November. Meanwhile, the 15-year rate declined 3 bps to 5.48%.
