Writer, Web Content

Group: Communications

NAHB seeks a motivated and creative writer to work collaboratively with the Communications staff on the development, reporting, writing, repurposing and editing of a broad range of content relating to the housing industry for the NAHB website, its blog and other communications channels. The overall goal is to help showcase the value of NAHB to our members and enhance communications about NAHB’s positive impact within the home building and remodeling industries. 

Candidates for this position must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentations, press releases, reports, copywriting, editing, and a keen familiarity with writing for the web. The ability to work with diverse professionals from various fields – including legislative, legal, technical and economic – to understand highly complex issues and plan media strategies to communicate NAHB’s policies is essential. Qualified candidates will also be able to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and follow-through. Proficiency with email management programs and web content management tools, including a basic knowledge of photo editing software, is required.

This position requires a minimum of two years of in-depth experience on website content creation and optimization; experience writing for traditional, online and social media channels; and a background in public relations/issues advocacy in the housing and/or real estate fields. Web Coordinator

Group: Communications

NAHB seeks an experienced Web Coordinator who will act as a key participant in the operational maintenance of NAHB’s websites (e.g. nahb.org, eyeonhousing.org and nahbnow.com), and other NAHB web-based initiatives, promoting awareness of these initiatives, managing their daily activities in the content management systems of record (Sitecore and WordPress) and other web applications. The Web Coordinator will focus on the administration and management of the Sitecore CMS, a secondary specialization in WordPress, Sitecore Commerce, Jira, Trello and other website support services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prompt logging and processing of website content requests (including e-commerce requests) in Trello
  • Website content workbox approvals
  • Maintenance of the departmental email mailbox
  • Standards-based quality assurance of web content
  • Management of updates to the WordPress platform
  • Internal and external communications with website stakeholders
  • Analytics research support

Candidates for this position must have excellent communication and customer service skills, specifically in a web service position. Qualified candidates will also be able to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and follow-through. Candidate must also be highly organized, especially with digital information. Candidates should be able to see the web through the target audience's eyes.   

This position requires a minimum of one year of web content management experience with an emphasis on web communications, CMS tools and content organization. Technical requirements include experience with Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics. Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of the website production process, including graphics creation and optimization, web page production, web analytics and search engine optimization (SEO). Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Google Analytics and Sitecore CMS is required. Basic knowledge of design principles and usability is a plus. Manager, Convention Operations

Group: Exhibitions and Meetings

NAHB is accepting applications for a Convention Operations Manager to work on the NAHB International Builders' Show and Leadership Council Meetings. This important position directly manages specific components (security, telecommunications, first aid, etc.), oversees the operations coordinator and assists in the overall management of the operations for the International Builders' Show. In addition, the operations manager is responsible for security, registration and other key logistics for the NAHB Leadership Council Meetings. 

Candidates should have 3-5 years experience working for trade shows, meetings, conferences or facilities management, or experience working for a trade show vendor (general contractor, CVB, hotel, etc.). Ideal candidates will have experience in print production, database structure and connectivity. Knowledge of MS Office 2013 (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.) required. A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and EventXL is a plus. Bachelor’s degree preferred. CEM or CMP certification a plus. Director, Intergovernmental Affairs

Group: Government Affairs

NAHB  is seeking a Director, Intergovernmental Affairs, to be responsible for establishing and enhancing relationships with external organizations that have the potential to help the NAHB accomplish its public policy objectives. The Director, Intergovernmental Affairs will serve as liaison and support the VP of Intergovernmental Affairs and other staff in representing the industry perspective to outside organizations; and work in coalition and maintain regular communications with all relevant staff, state/local home building associations and their staff leaders, and outside groups.  

Qualified candidates will have strong writing and organizational skills and excellent research and analytical abilities. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are a must. Candidates should also have strong computer skills as well as a basic understanding of political, government, legislative and regulatory processes.  

A minimum of five to seven years of experience in government/politics (state/local exposure preferred) and/or service in association government/political affairs/an issue-oriented capacity. Senior Program Manager, Codes and Standards

Group: Energy and Green Construction Codes and Standards

NAHB is seeking a building industry professional to join NAHB's advocacy efforts to improve the performance and advance the affordability of residential construction in the United States. The primary focus of this position is on energy solutions, green construction practices, and sustainability in single-family and multifamily buildings. The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the nexus of building science, advocacy and policy across a wide range of industry forums and engaging with a broad spectrum of industry stakeholders. 

This individual will represent NAHB at various codes and standards development committees and conduct critical analyses of proposed changes to building codes and standards. He/she will be also responsible for developing proposals, including changes to code provisions. The position will prepare rigorous comments to support NAHB policy and testify on behalf of the association. The senior program manager will work on longer-term initiatives to develop tools and information that support NAHB code advocacy efforts. 

This position is also responsible for assisting NAHB members, committees and staff with technical issues related to residential construction methods and practices. Other responsibilities include preparing and/or presenting articles, status updates, webinars and other related materials.

Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and effectively articulate NAHB's position in committee and hearing environments. Additionally, the candidate must be able to develop and maintain professional relationships and work positively with relevant stakeholders, committees, groups, voting members, and other industry professionals.

Field Specialist, Association Operations (Remote Position)

Group: Member Services and Education

NAHB is seeking a Field Specialist to support affiliated home building associations (HBAs). The Field Specialist will help build stronger and more efficient local and state associations by providing onsite assistance and resources focused on best practices in association operations and program execution. The Field Specialist will represent the national association and must be able to generally maintain a moderate to heavy travel schedule.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consult with state and local HBAs to enhance efficiencies and operations with a focus on benchmarking and improving non-dues revenue programs such as Parade of Homes, Home Shows and general events.
  • Assist HBAs with putting in place best practices to govern internal programs and processes.
  • Work with staff and leadership to establish newly chartered associations as well as provide short-term support to HBAs in distress.
  • Provide thought leadership on helping HBAs better showcase value to members.
  • Advise and help HBA leadership with the new Executive Officer search process as requested. Provide limited operational support for HBAs experiencing turnover or distress as needed.
  • Connect HBA staff and members to NAHB staff for key matters, conduct on-site programs for HBA staff and leadership aimed at strengthening the local association, and travel to local HBAs as requested to provide specialty programs to address specific HBAs’ needs.

The Field Specialist, Disaster Relief will manage the Federation’s disaster relief efforts by providing functional expertise and training to local and state HBAs to help their associations, members and communities prepare for and recover from a natural disaster.   • Develop and maintain contacts with governmental stakeholders, disaster preparedness and relief experts, government Agency/Administration staff, and industry experts both within and outside the Federation.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of best practices for disaster preparedness and recovery.
  • Serve as NAHB’s thought leader as needed with local level government and other agencies and organizations involved in disaster.
  • Serve as key representative of NAHB in the community, interfacing with local officials and developing plans with community leaders.
  • Regularly coordinate/communicate with other NAHB staff in relevant fields (e.g., codes and regulatory).
  • May support local preparation, response and recovery activities to include physical deployment to impacted communities.
  • Analyze opportunities for improved program service and recommends for implementation.

Program Manager, Environmental Policy

Group: Housing Finance and Regulatory Affairs

NAHB is seeking a program manager to provide technical assistance and policy guidance on a range of environmental and emerging resiliency-related topics. 

Candidates must have experience implementing federal, state or local stormwater requirements, a solid understanding of key aspects of the NPDES program including permit requirements for active construction sites, post-construction stormwater requirements imposed by municipalities, and EPA policies on TMDLs and nutrient trading. The ideal candidate would have a proven knowledge of federal rulemaking processes. Knowledge of state or local disaster-resilience or floodplain planning a plus.

The position will advocate for the housing industry before federal regulatory agencies conduct research, provide technical assistance, and participate in national construction, real estate and development coalitions to affect federal and state regulatory agendas and proposals. 

Knowledge of other environmental statutes and regulations is a plus, as the candidate must be able to manage emerging issues, as assigned. Candidates must be able to work independently, effectively manage multiple projects, and meet competing deadlines.

A minimum of three years of environmental policy experience in a federal, state or local regulatory agency, or an equivalent private sector position is required. A Masters degree or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Environmental Law, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources or comparable experience and education is required.

Program Manager, Codes and Standards

NAHB is seeking an experienced professional in the construction industry to advocate for building codes and standards that protect public health and safety while remaining cost-effective and preserving housing affordability. The Program Manager will represent the association and its members in the development processes for the major building codes and related engineering, architectural, accessibility and/or fire safety standards in the United States.

The position requires preparation written comments in support of NAHB policy resolutions, delivering testimony on behalf of the association, and maintaining professional and positive working relationships with code and standard development committees, building official organizations, allied trade associations, and other industry stakeholders.

Individuals will also work with NAHB’s Construction, Codes & Standards Committee and other NAHB committees and councils to address issues related to building codes, standards and residential construction and provide input on creating or revising NAHB policy resolutions. Duties include preparing meeting materials, reporting on key issues, and working with committee and subcommittee chairs to run meetings and teleconferences.

Other responsibilities include assisting NAHB members and affiliates, association staff, allied associations and others with technical and enforcement issues related to residential construction, codes and standards, writing articles for NAHB newsletters and blogs, developing webinars, and creating other resources to ensure NAHB remains the premier source of information and education on residential construction.

Qualified candidates must be able to review and understand technical details of building codes and design standards, address complex issues concisely and effectively, and offer practical and cost-effective solutions. The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organization, and the ability to work effectively with others. The ideal candidate must have intermediate skills using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Travel to building code hearings, committee meetings, technical workshops, and other industry events is required.

Individuals should have a minimum of five years of experience related to the design, construction, plan review or inspection of single-family homes and/or multi-family buildings and ensuring compliance to building codes and industry standards. Experience in Fire Suppression, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical and/or Fuel Gas is desired. Prior experience in building code development or service on industry standards committees is highly desirable.
