The Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has recognized three outstanding council members and professional staff for their contributions to the organization and to the home building industry.
PWB members work in all aspects of the building industry—as owners, builders, remodelers, architects, suppliers, marketing experts, designers and in finance and real estate. The PWB awards were presented during the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.
Cindy Kosloski, executive officer of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Lansing, Mich., was honored as NAHB 2017 Executive Officer of the Year.
Kosloski was instrumental in the formation of the local PWB council, teaming with its now-chair on the launch and organizing a successful luncheon that recruited the first 25 members. She has continued to recruit members and organize PWB events such as a charity bike ride, speakers series, networking events and more.
Kosloski also championed the effort to have the PWB chair sit on the HBA’s executive board, cementing the group’s influence even further.
Geri Nelson, residential marketing account manager for DTE Energy in Escanaba, Mich., was honored as NAHB 2017 PWB Member of the Year in recognition of her leadership in three local PWB councils.
Nelson chairs the PWB councils for the HBA of Upper Peninsula and the HBA of Northern Michigan, and was central to launching the PWB for the HBA of Grand Traverse. Nelson also chairs the NAHB PWB membership subcommittee, which is on track to exceed its new membership and retention goal for the year.
Marla Esser Cloos, owner and president of Green Home Coach/Sustaining Spaces in Edmond, Okla., was honored as NAHB 2017 National PWB Member of the Year for her outstanding contributions.
As NAHB PWB Council trustee, Esser Cloos ushered the Metro Denver HBA through forming and chartering its PWB council. She has long brought her great energy and experience to efforts by PWB councils in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma to stay afloat during hard times and regain strength afterward.
“Cindy, Geri and Marla each brought great vision and energy to help grow strong and effective local PWBs, the crucial basis for our national efforts,” said Juli Bacon, chair of the NAHB PWB Council and owner of JB Consulting Systems LLC and Bacon Maintenance Services LLC in Woodinville, Wash. “Their passion for PWB and desire to see others in the industry succeed make them effective and productive leaders.”
In addition to honoring outstanding members, PWB awards scholarships to local councils and students in their communities. For the 2017/2018 award cycle, PWB gave $15,000 in scholarships to high school students across the country.
