Statement from NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke on Administration Cutting Red Tape
Chuck Fowke, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a custom home builder from Tampa, Fla., issued the following statement after President Trump spoke today on the White House lawn on the importance of regulatory innovation and cutting red tape:
"NAHB commends President Trump for making it a priority to reduce and eliminate excessive regulations on American industry that harm small businesses by needlessly raising the cost of housing for consumers. On average, regulations and fees imposed by government at all levels account for nearly 25 percent of the cost of a single-family home and more than 30 percent of multifamily development costs. By moving aggressively to implement a new waters of the U.S. rule, streamline and expedite the federal permitting process and cut red tape, the administration continues to deliver on the president's pledge to reduce costly regulations that stifle job and economic growth. Moreover, the president's laser-like focus on cutting burdensome regulations is helping to ease the nation's housing affordability crisis and fuel the economic recovery."
