Seven Leaders Named ‘Ones to Watch’ at IBS

Press Release

Seven young building industry professionals were honored today as “Ones to Watch” at the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla., where builders, remodelers and their trade partners feted the winners’ contributions to the association and to the industry at large.

“These award winners are still in the early stages of their careers, yet they are already making an impact on the home building industry and setting the pace for their colleagues,” said Adam Aschmann, chair of the NAHB Young Professionals Committee. “I join the entire NAHB leadership team in congratulating them on their success, and expect we’ll be hearing a lot from them in the future.”

Associates. Rich Robinson is vice president of the Member Rebate Program in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. and a member of the Shore Builders Association of Central New Jersey. Robinson founded the young professionals group for his state association, then appointed to the newly launched NAHB Young Professionals Committee, for which he will serve as chair this year. Robinson was lauded for helping the committee create more advanced communications programs for its members.

Custom Builders. Steve Martinez is president of Tradewinds General Contracting Inc. in Boise and a member of the Builders and Contractors Association of Southwest Idaho. “An innovator who pushes the envelope, Steve Martinez continues to streamline his business operations, leads a cohesive team, and recognizes the need for modern designs in his market that’s exemplified in his craftsmanship and clients testimonies,” awards program judges said.

Green. Ryan Miller, executive director of the North Carolina Building Performance Association and a member of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange and Chatham Counties, has created four statewide trade associations in four years to support builders, contractors, product suppliers and consumers interested in energy efficient, green and high-performance construction. Miller is leading new and innovative efforts to include the high-performance features and green certifications of homes in the Multiple Listing Service.

Multifamily. Elizabeth Gillmor, president and founder of Energetics Consulting Engineers in Aurora, Colorado, was honored for her professional volunteer activity, including mentoring women engineers and tireless advocacy on environmental issues. Gillmor “takes on the toughest challenge in development, which is getting developers to change their focus from the up-front investment to payoff in the long run, especially when it affects the environment,” judges said.

Professional Women in Building. Sarah McDaniel, rainmaker at BAC/Ferguson and a member of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver, helped to found the local NAHB Professional Women in Building chapter by combining her building industry experience with her expertise at community outreach. That successful effort was followed by another: McDaniel has been tapped to develop and chair the HBA’s newly formed Custom Builder & Remodeler Council.

NAHB Remodelers. Jon Edler, who leads the retail sales and estimating division at Henges Interiors in Earth City, Mo., is a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Southwest Illinois. Edler “has enthusiastically embraced the idea that activity with his HBA and Remodelers Council is important to his career and to the advancement of the industry,” judges said, citing his fundraising leadership that netted the council more than $12,000 just this year. His HBA calls Edler a “team player who also has the talent to re-energize those around him.”

Sales and Marketing. Chris Hartley joined Dunhill Homes as vice president of sales & marketing in June 2011 and the company had 27 closings that year. In 2017, it had nearly 400 closings and was named a Top 10 fastest growing private company in Dallas/Fort Worth by the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. Hartley has helped grow the participation and sell sponsorships for the Dallas Builders Association Sales and Marketing Council’s McSam Awards and serves as co-chair in 2018/19.
